Two local artists will open a new art show with a food and wine reception at Sebastopol Area Senior Center on Saturday, Sept. 23, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Alice Larsen has been a Sebastopol resident for many years and has shown her art throughout California, Hawaii, and Sonoma County. Nancy Sanchietti began her work as a plein-air artist and ventured into watercolors before returned to oil painting.

“I have loved art-making since I was a little girl,” according to Larsen. “My life-long aspirations have been to create something honest, interesting, and delightful to gaze at. I think about art, live art, and love art, all day long. Most everything I look at gives some ideas that I’d like to paint.” Larsen has won prizes in California and in Sonoma County.

“My BFA in drawing and painting from the University of Hawaii gave me some art basics, but since then I have continued to experiment with mixed mediums from print-making, charcoal, oils, pastels, alkyds, acrylics, photography and recently in watercolor,” Larsen added. “I love the challenge of new media and express myself with more abandon, the older I get.”

Nancy Sanchietti has been a resident of Sonoma County since she was sixteen years old. In the mid-seventies, she began her work as a plein-air artist painting. Sanchietti ventured into watercolors and returned to oil painting about fifteen years ago. She has worked with pastels, acrylics, and other media along the way keeping her work fresh and fun, in her own words. Larsen is self-taught; however, she has taken workshops from talented artists such as Gil Delinger, Armand Cabreara, Richard Thomas, and Pam Powell to name a few.

Sanchietti has been a member of Art Workshop of Western Sonoma County (AWS) for many years and has shown her work at local venues as well as the Gravenstein Apple Fair and the Apple Blossom Festival Art Show.

AWS is an artist group of long standing in Sonoma County and curates the art shows for the Senior Center. This group is working in collaboration with Voice-Print for this showing beginning September 21 through October 20.
