Thank you to our 2018 Sponsors and Donors

The annual Aged to Perfection Benefit Dinner and Auction was attended by 160 folks paying tribute to  Gus St. Marie, this year’s honoree.  Entertained by Rick Minervini, “Fiz Nik”; Jim Corbett, “Mr. Music”; and our own Jerry Lee Lewis and Elvis impersonator, Matt Witteman; the 50’s themed Rock N Roll Car Cabaret was fun for all!

The honoree, Gus St. Marie, even entertained us with his grand entrance in a makeshift Chevy, accompanied by 4 “Jimmy Deans” from the Chevy Classic Car Club. Auctioneer, Radio KZST personality, Ted Williams, and our Board President, Brian Ledig, kept the bids coming and the competition intense for the fabulous live auction items. Phyllis Sutter and Renee Anderson procured wine and gifts galore for the silent auction.

About Gus St. Marie

It is with great pleasure that we announce Gus St. Marie as our 2018 Aged to Perfection Honoree. Recognized throughout town driving his orange and white ‘57 Chevy Bel Air, Gus loves his community, his cars and the Sebastopol Area Senior Center.

Gus has served as the co-chair of the Driven to Perfection Classic Car Show since its inception. Over the years, this community event has been attended by thousands who come to see hundreds of cars, enjoy meeting the owners and sharing their love of classics. Since the beginning, this event has generated almost $80,000 for the Senior Center. The event coordinator, Transportation

Director, Dean Brittingham agrees “the car show wouldn’t have happened without Gus’ expertise”.

And expertise he has! Gus was a founding member of the Redwood Empire Classic Chevy Club, which is now 40 years old! He also served on the board of the Antique Auto Club of America and helped run the Peggy Sue Car Show in Santa Rosa. Gus brought the know-how to Sebastopol, enabling us to host Driven to Perfection. Th is year (the sixth!) the show will be on Saturday, May 26 at the O’Reilly Media Center, 1005 Gravenstein Hwy N. For more info visit: sebastopolseniorcenter. org/driven-to-perfection.

Gus’ philanthropic endeavors do not stop with the Sebastopol Area Senior Center. For fi ve years, with the help of his brother Allan and friends, he has served as a chauff eur for “Date Night” auction item for Social Advocates for Youth, (SAY), raising from $3,500 - $10,000 each year. Th e successful bidder gets a monthly evening out for a year, chauff eured in a classic car driven by Gus.

Keeping to his passion for cars, with funding from the Redwood Empire Classic Chevy Club, Gus initiated a scholarship program for students in Automotive and Industrial Arts at the Santa Rosa Junior College.

Another cause close to his heart is Threads for Teens, started by his granddaughter, Allyson, when she was only 14. Providing fashionable clothing for girls aged 11-21 from the foster care system, Gus served as one of the founding board members. For four years he drove across county stopping at major cities throughout, providing these emancipated youth with the opportunity to “shop” for free in a special boutique trailer, where they’d select two complete outfi ts with accessories for themselves. “Some of the young ladies would show up wearing old shoes with cardboard for soles,” Gus explained “We’d encourage them to take four pairs of shoes instead of the usual two – as they clearly had nothing but the clothes on their backs.”

Gus was born in Tumwater, Washington in 1945, and moved to Forestville in 1949, so he’s as local as they come. He attended Jonive Elementary, Pleasant Hill Elementary, and Analy Union High. He went on to get an AA in Business t SRJC, a BA in Management at SSU and is a graduate of University of Farmers.

He served in the US Army as a sergeant E-5 in the mid 60’s and has worked as a repo-man, a credit manager, a driver in construction, a truck and trailer salesman, and as an insurance agent. Married to Mary Charlotte, they have three daughters.

If you haven’t met Gus yet, come introduce yourself at Driven to Perfection, Saturday, May 26. See more about Gus at our Aged to Perfection Dinner, Auction and Cabaret, Saturday June 16 at the Sebastopol Center for the Arts.

Thank you Gus for all you do for us!
