Our community continues to grow, your donations make it so.

The Sebastopol Area Senior Center is a non-profit 501(c)3 Corporation. Your donations are fully tax deductible.

As the boomers continue to move into retirement, our senior community continues to grow. The Sebastopol Area Senior Center needs to parallel this growth, which requires broadening our financial base. It bears repeating that unlike most senior centers across the country, we are not a function of a city parks and recreation department. We are a private, non-profit organization, and must generate all of our assets and revenue through donations, grants, The Legacy, program fees, and bequests.

There are numerous ways that you can donate to the Sebastopol Area Senior Center. We welcome individual donations, but we have several large events that you may attend during the year.

Ways you can donate to your Senior Center

There is nothing more true to the American spirit than charitable giving. Our system of charitable giving is encouraged in every level of society: at school, at work, at church, and by the U.S. Tax Code.

We give because we believe that our actions will help enhance our communities, improve opportunities for our children or seniors, and create a higher standard of living for our neighbors. Philanthropic endeavors and generous actions not only benefit society as a whole, but also give us a personal stake in solving community challenges.

It is incumbent upon each of us to do what we can to help. Historically Americans have preferred to give to charity than pay Estate Taxes.

You may think: How can my $ matter when some private foundations give millions of dollars? It is individuals who give the most. In fact, individual giving makes up for 82 percent of all charitable giving in the U.S., donating an estimated $316.23 billion to charitable causes in 2012.

When creating your estate plan be sure to consider charitable giving. Ask yourself:

  • What are the institutions and organizations that are important to me?
  • What are the organizations that I already give to?
  • If those organizations count on my annual support, what will they do when I am gone?
  • How can I make a difference?
  • How will your family know what is important to you?
  • Do you want to leave a one-time gift or create an on-going legacy?

It is smart to contact organizations now to find out how your gift can best help them in the future.

  • Does the organization have an existing endowment fund that you can contribute to?
  • Is it better to create a specific scholarship or fund a specific project?
  • Or are unrestricted gifts better?
  • How can you start building a relationship with the organization now?
  • Do you want recognition now for your gift?
