Keep us providing services for years to come

Gravenstein Trailblazers

You can support the Sebastopol Area Senior Center for decades to come by planning for a future gift. Making such a gift is surprisingly easy, might provide you with tax advantages and help you support the Senior Center by redirecting assets you don’t need.

Also, with estate planning, you may be able to provide support that you could not afford in your lifetime.

what we do

Since 1969 the Sebastopol Area Senior Center has been a home away  from home for our community's seniors.

We serve the growing population of elders. We alleviate isolation, promote strong mental health, offer mind-engaging activities, and enhance health with exercise and nutrition.

There are many options for planning a future gift now

WILLS:

To protect our future, we have established an ENDOWMENT.

The Sebastopol Area Senior Center has an Endowment Trust to enable investment of funds from wills and bequests to grow for future income. We do not want to spend someone’s lifetime gift in a few months, we want to set the asset aside and preserve the principal.

There are many things to consider when making a bequest. You may wish to review this information with your legal advisor, but here are some examples:

Unrestricted:

I give (dollar amount, property to be given, or percentage of estate) to the Sebastopol Area Senior Center, a non-profit California corporation located in Sebastopol, California, to be used for the benefit of the Senior Center in such a manner as the Board of Directors may elect.

There are also other forms of of bequests including:

Restricted - To support a specific program

Residuary - To leave all or part of the remainder of your estate to the Senior Center

Contingency - To support the Senior Center if you outlive your other beneficiaries

POSSIBLE TAX SAVINGS OPTIONS

Are you 73 or over and need to take a distribution from your IRA?

That will increase your taxable income and possibly your Medicare eligibility assessment.  If you don’t really need it – you can donate all or part of it to a charity (like the Sebastopol Area Senior Center) and reduce some or all of your increase in income.  The donation must be made directly from your account to the senior center, not to you.  Your brokerage firm can do this for you.

Need to reduce your taxable income?

Other ways you might donate include transferring of assets that have increased in value (capital gains), or creating a Donor Advised Fund with your broker.
