Dear LGBT Friends, Family, Neighbors & Allies,
I recently honored my son Spencer's birthday; he would have been 33. (Many of you know that he passed at age 29 after accidentally getting fentanyl.) I thought about him all day as we would always get together on his birthday. πβ€οΈ
Do you know how sometimes a song opens a portal to deep feelings and emotions from your past? I found that song, and I played it all day. I love that it made me cry in a good way, releasing pent up emotions. It opened the door for me experiencing grief, which is welcome and beautiful. The singer, Alex Warren who was nominated for a Grammy, and looks kind of like my son. π
I see this song has 323 million views with 54,000 comments. Apparently, I'm not the only one who is deeply touched by this song. This comment summarizes my feelings as well: βFor me, this song means that god (the Great Spirit) places you exactly where you need to be, even if you donβt feel ready. Sometimes the fall is necessary...it breaks you just enough so that when it's time, you can truly rise. You may feel ordinary, unsure, or lost, but thatβs often when grace finds you. And maybe the fall isnβt the end...itβs the start of your flight." Life goes on. My son's spirit told me to enjoy every day, that we really don't know how many days we have left on the planet.
In other newsβ¦My guy Peter and I have organized a trip to New Orleans, staying for 17 days. We'll be staying with friends for five days before moving to an Airbnb. Initially, we considered flying to the Yucatan or heading to Nashville to explore the music scene, but we've realized there's so much to experience in New Orleans that we've decided to spend our entire trip there.
Weβre looking forward to enjoying walking tours, bicycle tours, the literary scene, museums, live music and parades. Being there for Easter will be fun because there's a big celebration, and at the end of our visit, we'll catch the French Quarter Music Festival. We love live music! I've been reading about the history of the city, learning about its establishment in 1716βwow! Plus, Peter and I will be celebrating our Aries birthdays while we're there.
Lastly, we need your help carrying our huge rainbow flag π³οΈβπ in the parades listed below! Please email Julie (julie@sebastopolseniorcenter.org) to sign up to carry our flag in this months Apple Blossom Parade on Saturday April 25th.
Wishing Everyone a Happy Spring!
