About the Class: In Chair Pilates class, we work to identify the deeper core muscles as well as those muscles that can support hip stability as well as upper back/arm strength. For people who can’t easily go to the floor and up as well as those who have balance/stability issues, doing the exercises in a chair and then also during the standing exercises having the chair as support works better for them.
About the Instructor: Virginia Matthews is a professional dancer, teacher and choreographer who began working with Michelle Larsson and Mercy Sidbury learning the classic Pilates matwork in 1984. When she moved from San Francisco to Sebastopol in 1993 and shortly after acquired the Downtown Dance/Art Space studio she began to offer Pilates matwork at the studio.
